Jaquet-Droz, the first watch-maker in the world(1): miracle and history
Jaquet-Droz is one of the world’s oldest watch brands in Swiss, with a history of about 300 years. And even in China, as early as the Qing Dynasty, the royal family appreciated greatly and regarded it as one of the treasures. Jaquet-Droz is widely appreciated for its exquisite watch-making skills and especially the enamel techniques. And in the 2007 Basel International Watch & Clock Exhibition, Jaquet Droz displayed a variety of wonderful watches and was named as the perfect blend of modern art and classical aesthetics.

Jaquet-Droz`s founder, PierreJaquet-Droz was born in LaChaux-de-Fonds in Swiss. His family was well-off and after graduation from university, he had already gradually gained fame in Neuchatel, the watch-making center at that time. After then, PierreJaquet-Droz with his son Henri-LouisJaquet-Droz and his student Jean-FredericLeschot together made three mechanical dolls and in 1744, they were showed to the public. The three dolls were so complex and they could move like writing, drawing pictures and even playing music, and were called the great miracle in the human technology history.

PierreJaquet-Droz was also good at making SingingBird and watches. As early as 1738, he had opened its first watch-making store in the LaChaux-de-Fonds. And in fact, Jaquet-Droz made the world`s first watch in the 18th century, a women watch of Jaquet-Droz with a strap.
